Before You Start

Why Proper Fit Matters

Insoles add material inside your shoes. The right fit should improve comfort without making your shoes feel tight, unstable, or awkward.

Better Comfort

A properly fitted insole sits flat inside the shoe and supports your foot without pressure points.

Cleaner Shoe Fit

Trimming helps full-length insoles match your shoe shape, especially around the toe area.

More Secure Steps

A good fit helps reduce sliding, heel lift, and unwanted movement inside the shoe.

Trim Guide

How To Trim Your Insoles

For full-length insoles, use your original shoe insole as a template. Trim slowly and test often for the best result.

1
Remove your original shoe insole

Take the existing insole out of your shoe if it is removable.

2
Place it on top of your InsoleLux insole

Align the heel of the original insole with the heel of your new insole.

3
Trace the shape

Use a pen or marker to trace the front and side shape of your original insole.

4
Cut slowly along the line

Start with small cuts. It is better to trim less at first than to cut too much.

5
Place it inside your shoe

Insert the trimmed insole and make sure it sits flat without curling at the toe.

6
Test the fit and adjust

If it still feels tight or bunched up, trim a little more and test again.

Trim Warning

Always trim less at first. You can cut more, but you can’t add material back.

Best practice: Walk indoors first on a clean surface before wearing your trimmed insoles outside. This helps you confirm the fit before committing to long-term use.
Do not force the fit: If your shoe feels too tight, remove the original insole, use thinner socks, or choose a lower-profile insole style.
Product Fit Notes

Fit Notes By Product Type

Different InsoleLux products fit differently. Use these notes to choose the right approach before trimming or wearing.

Product Type Fit Note Best Practice
Full-Length Height Insoles May need trimming at the toe area to match your shoe shape. Use your original shoe insole as a template and trim slowly.
Adjustable Lift Insoles Mainly require checking heel depth and shoe collar height. Start with fewer layers first, then increase height if your shoe still feels secure.
Half / Heel Inserts Easier to use, but the heel area must hold your foot securely to avoid slipping. Place the insert firmly at the back of the shoe and test for heel movement.
Fit reminder: Higher lift options need more shoe depth. If your heel rises too high in the shoe, switch to a lower lift or use a deeper shoe style such as high-top sneakers or boots.
Fit Checklist

Check Your Shoe Fit Before Wearing

After placing your insoles inside your shoes, check these points before wearing them for long periods.

Toe room

Your toes should not feel squeezed at the front of the shoe.

Heel depth

Your heel should still sit securely inside the shoe, especially with height boost insoles.

Flat placement

The insole should lie flat without curling, folding, or bunching inside the shoe.

Side pressure

Your foot should not feel pinched along the sides after adding the insole.

Heel slipping

If your heel slips out while walking, choose a lower lift or a shoe with a deeper heel collar.

Indoor test

Walk indoors first to check comfort, balance, and fit before wearing outside.

Trim Rules

When To Trim — And When Not To

Not every insole needs trimming. Some products are designed to fit directly inside the heel area or adjust by layers.

Usually okay to trim

  • Full-length insoles with extra toe length.
  • Insoles with printed trim lines or enough front material.
  • Toe area only, when using your original insole as a guide.

Avoid trimming

  • Heel lift layers unless the product clearly allows it.
  • Gel, air cushion, or support zones.
  • Any part that affects structure, height, or cushioning stability.
Troubleshooting

If The Fit Does Not Feel Right

Small adjustments can make a big difference. Use these fixes if your shoes feel too tight, unstable, or uncomfortable after adding insoles.

Shoe feels too tight

Remove the original shoe insole, use thinner socks, or choose a lower-profile insole.

Heel feels too high

Reduce the lift height or switch to high-top sneakers or boots with more heel depth.

Insole moves around

Make sure the insole is seated flat. For heel inserts, place them firmly at the back of the shoe.

FAQ

Fit & Trim FAQ

Quick answers to common fitting and trimming questions.

Should I remove my original shoe insole?

In many shoes, yes. Removing the original insole creates more space and helps the InsoleLux insole sit more naturally. If your shoe still feels comfortable with both layers, you may keep the original insole in place.

Can I trim all InsoleLux insoles?

Full-length insoles may be trimmable at the toe area. Do not trim heel lift layers, gel zones, air cushions, or support areas unless the product page clearly says it is safe.

What should I do if I cut too much?

Material cannot be added back once removed. That is why we recommend trimming slowly and testing the fit often.

Why does my shoe feel tighter after adding insoles?

Insoles add volume inside your shoe. Try removing the original insole, choosing thinner socks, or using a lower-profile insole style.

How do I know if height insoles are too high for my shoes?

If your heel slips, your foot feels unstable, or the shoe collar no longer holds your heel securely, the lift may be too high for that shoe.

Can I move one pair of insoles between different shoes?

Yes, if the shoes have a similar size and shape. Always test the fit inside each shoe before wearing them for long periods.
